Chapter 36 of 41 · 2 units
Humility is the servant deeming himself insignificant, his readiness to accept the truth, and his refusal to see himself as having any superiority over others.
Hadith 51: Abū ʾl-Ḥوسayn ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh informed us: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Baṣrī narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Shādhān narrated to us: ʿAmr ibn Ḥakkām narrated to us: Shuʿba informed us, on the authority of Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, on the authority of Jābir, who said: I came to the Prophet – may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace – regarding a debt owed by my father. I knocked on the door and he said, “Who is this?” He [Jābir] said: I replied, “Me.” He said, “Me? me?” as if he disliked that.
