Hadith 15: Janāḥ ibn Nadhīr ibn Janāḥ al-Qāḍī informed us in Kufa: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Duḥaym narrated to us: Abū ʿAmr Aḥmad ibn Ḥāzim ibn Abī ʿAzra narrated to us: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā informed us: Shaybān informed us on the authority of Layth, on the authority of Mujāhid on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, on the authority of the Prophet – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – that he said: “Be upright, and you will never encompass [all acts of good], and perform good deeds. Know that the best of your deeds is prayer and that none but a believer maintains ablution.”
Hadith 16: Abū Nuʿaym ʿAbd al-Malik ibn al-Ḥasan al-Isfarāyinī informed us: Abū ʿAwāna Yaʿqūb ibn Isḥāq informed us: Abū Dāwūd al-Ḥarrānī narrated to us: ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sufyān narrated to us: Hishām ibn ʿUrwa narrated to us, he said: I heard my father reporting from Sufyān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Thaqafī who said: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam such that I will not need to inquire about it henceforth.” He said, “Say, ‘I believe in Allah,’ then remain upright.”
