25. Upholding Family Ties

صِلَةُ ٱلرَّحِمِ مِنْ أَرْكَانِ ٱلدِّينِ وَفَرَائِضِهِ.
Upholding family ties is among the pillars and obligations of the religion.
٣٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو ٱلْحُسَيْنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ، أَنْبَا أَبُو سَهْلٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ خَالَوَيْهِ ٱلْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ، ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَنْبَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ أَمِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيٍّ ﵁ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ﵌: «مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَمُدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُ فِي عُمُرِهِ، وَيُوَسِّعَ لَهُ فِي رِزْقِهِ، وَيَدْفَعَ عَنْهُ مِيتَةَ ٱلسُّوءِ، فَلْيَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَلْيَصِلْ رَحِمَهُ.»
Hadith 35: Abū ʾl-Ḥوسayn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bishrān in Baghdad informed us: Abū Sahl Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ziyād informed us: Isḥāq ibn Khālawayh al-Wāsiṭī narrated to us: ʿAlī ibn Baḥr narrated to us: Hishām ibn Yūsuf narrated to us: Maʿmar informed us on the authority of Abū Isḥāq, on the authority of ʿĀṣim ibn Ḍamra, on the authority of the Commander of the Believers ʿAlī – may Allah be pleased with him – who said: The Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace – said: “Whoever would be pleased that Allah extend his lifespan, expand his provision, and ward off from him an evil death, let him fear Allah and uphold his family ties.”
٣٦ - وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ٱلْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، أَنْبَا أَبُو ٱلْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ٱلشَّيْبَانِيُّ، ثَنَا ٱلْخَضِرُ بْنُ أَبَانَ ٱلْهَاشِمِيُّ، ثَنَا أَبُو هُدْبَةَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هُدْبَةَ، ثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ﵁، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ﷺ: «إِنَّ ٱلرَّحِمَ لَتَتَعَلَّقُ بِٱلْعَرْشِ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَامَةِ تَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ، ٱقْطَعْ مَنْ قَطَعَنِي، وَصِلْ مَنْ وَصَلَنِي.»
Hadith 36: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf al-Aṣbahānī narrated to us: Abū ʾl-Ḥوسayn ʿAlī ibn ʿUqba al-Shaybānī informed us: al-Khiḍr ibn Abān al-Hāshimī narrated to us: Abū Hudba Ibrāhīm ibn Hudba narrated to us: Anas ibn Mālik – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated to us, he said: The Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – said: “Indeed, on the Day of Judgement, the womb will cling to the Throne saying, ‘O Lord, sever the one who has severed me, and join the one who joined me.’”
