Hadith 13: Al-Ḥākim Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ – may Allah have mercy on him – informed us: Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq ibn Ayyūb al-Faqīh narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Walīd al-Baghdādī informed us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī narrated to us on the authority of his father Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh, on the authority of Muʿāwiya ibn Ḥayda who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – and asked, “What suffices me from this world?” He said: “Whatever covers your nakedness and satisfies your hunger. If you have a house, then good, and if a donkey, then excellent! A piece of bread and a jug of water [is enough], and you are held accountable for what is above the izār.”
