Among their etiquettes is refraining from asking others to the best of their ability, while earning from lawful sources as much as suffices their needs.
Hadith 12: Abū Saʿīd Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ismāʿīlī – may Allah have mercy on him – informed us: Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam al-Miṣrī narrated to us: Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ informed us on the authority of Hishām ibn ʿUrwa, on the authority of his father, on the authority of al-Zubayr who said: The Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace – said: “It is better for one of you to take his rope, set out, and carry a bundle of wood on his back—thereby preserving his honor — than to ask people for their things, regardless of whether they give to him or refuse him.”
